This morning, the ladies left to walk up to Olga Koblyianska, get some money out of the ATM, and then get in a cab to go to Kalinka Market. I think everyone was overwhelmed with the sheer extent of all the stuff that is at this market…shoes, kitchen stuff, food, boots, coats, clothes, etc.
Too much to look at, and Aunt Sandy even felt dizzy. After about an hour or so of walking around we taxied back to Chernivtsi where we went to Reflection for lunch. It was great but it took forever. Way too long for lunch. I enjoyed pointing out my favorite places…where I teach, workout, shop for groceries, etc.
Then we walked to the Chernivtsi market to buy some more pysanky (they were a huge hit with the ladies) and to buy some veggies for the dinner I am cooking tomorrow. The market was unusually alive today and there was so much bread for Easter that is not usually there. Really cool to see the traditional bread.
The paska you see above was really, really good. I will miss it on future Easters...I will miss a lot of wonderful aspects Ukrainian Easter, actually.

s to is all the pysanky that Britt and Sandy purchased!
We went into some stores to shop throughout the downtown area and then went to the market on Koblyianska, where I often shop for groceries. The ladies wanted to try some things and bought vanilla crackers, birdseed crackers, green M and Ms, cheese flavored chips, a Kruton kind of cracker, and some cookies. Britt bought some caviar flavored croutons (caviar is big around here, as it is in Russia) and they were nasty. She said Spencer would probably like them, though!
Afterwards we went to have a coffee and some dessert at Vienna Café. Having them here makes me miss home and everyone there. I love having them here to walk around Chernivtsi with me. On the way home I took them to 2 mini-markets that I frequent on my way home.
Now we are back, comparing all the pysanky that have been purchased, and the crew is reading my blog (above). We will go to dinner in a few hours, taking our basket with us to be blessed by the priest tonight. Evidently services are held around midnight. My kind of church service!

Pysanky advice from a veteran purchaser: if you bought real ones, and if they still have the egg inside, just poke holes with a needle on each end and blow out--works great; and for safe transport home--an egg carton in your carry-on works great--I had loads make it home safely last year (and more for this year!)
