February 15 and 16

Monday, Feb 15th
Arrived in Chernivtsi this AM. Glad to be back! I had my Nestle Fitness cereal (yes, that is the name of it) and then went to the gym and to 2 mini-markets with Andriy and Veronika. Had to be super careful bc icicles are falling from trees, buildings, etc. So now I have to look down so as to avoid falling and look above me every once in a while so I don’t get bopped on the head.

Cooked dinner in tonight. Tomorrow AM I am going to the bizarre with Andriy and Veronika. This place is supposed to be awesome- 33 acres, with 50,000 people passing through every day, and you can buy just about anything from what I read. I’ll let you know!

February 16
The bizarre at Kalina was awesome! I took a cab there with Andriy and Veronika. Andriy loved these political billboards and took photos of them with my camera.

This place was HUGE. We spent some time looking at coats until our toes and fingers were so numb we couldn’t feel them. Veronika and I thought these were pretty funny!

At that point we decided to go inside for some kava and food. That is when I discovered holubsi, more commonly referred to as my new favorite Ukrainian food. Steamed rice with red peppers wrapped in steamed cabbage and heated (and covered in smetana aka sour cream, of course).

Then we walked around more. Andriy had to leave so Veronika stayed. I bought a sweater, some hair scrunchies, a play watch, an orange, a can of corn, and Veronika’s favorite health crackers.

Then we took marshrutki 35 back to Chernivtsi. When we were about to get on, 2 very large women totally slammed into me. What in the world? The scene went from us all being patient to total mayhem. When they bumped into me, I slammed into Veronika, who slammed into someone else. It is a wonder we didn’t all tumble since we were of course standing on a huge piece of ice.

Tonight I cooked varenyky, this time with cheese inside. I think I prefer the potato filling.

I prepped for class, skyped with my Mom and Aunt, and then IM’ed with my brother and Alissa (she and I have been talking a lot more often since I am in a time zone much closer to England's!). Heading to bed!!

Courtney, What is going on with the fur? Interesting style!! I hope those deadly icicles are gone before April. You will never look at snow or icicles the same again. Enjoy your visit with AGG and can't wait to see more pictures.

How did anonymous get above my comment? I suppose from now on, I will be your Aunt Anonymous. Has a certain ring to it.
